STRAUBERG IS HERE
Four friends - a director, an actor, a writer and his wife (accompanied by their chiId) - are spending a working holiday together on a small island in the Aagean, where a mutual acquaintance, the successful publisher Strauberg, has lent them his summer house.
In order to prove to Strauberg, whom they all hate because of his success,
that they are capable of self-control, they decide to "go native" - to give up such city habits as smoking and drinking, and to depend totally on the island's resources. This unthinking assumption of an arcaic lifestyle unleashes their latent aggressions. They becomes more and
more brutalised, and the violation of a taboo eventually leads, first to their becoming isolated from one another, and then, inevitably, to a catastrophe.
When Strauberg shows up they are momentarily reunited by their common hatred, bound together by their resentment, as failures, of his success. But when Strauberg is murdered,
there is nothing to restrain their mutual hostillity from breaking out.
